"Hi" Paige said and Jane could tell that there was either nervousness or tension in her voice.

"Hi, yourself. How are you doing?" Jane asked hoping her voice was perfectly calm but she was not so sure that it was.

"Okay, I guess, How have you been?" Paige asked.

"About the same I guess. Can I come in?" Jane asked as Paige was still standing in the doorway.

"Oh god, I am sorry, yes come on in." Paige said as she jumped back to let Jane inside.

Jane had thought of this house as her second home after she and Paige had become such great friends but right now, it felt strange. Jane came on in the house and she let Paige take her bag. She watched wondering where Paige would put her bag and saw that she put it in her room. While that did not mean anything, it did give her a little hope. When Paige came back, she offered Jane a Dr. Pepper and then they went to the den. The conversation was strained at best with neither mentioning the past two weeks or the love potion. They went from subject to subject trying to finding something to talk about but it was hard. Jane felt her nervousness return and she started to feel like she was just here waiting for the bomb to drop. Finally, Paige suggested that they watch a movie and Jane was almost relieved at not having to try to find something to talk about with her best friend. Paige first made some popcorn but she made Jane wait in the den not allowing her to help. When she returned, she put the movie on and Jane tried to watch it but she also kept one eye on Paige. She could see that there was something bothering her. She was fidgeting and Paige did not do that. All the times before when Paige watched a movie, her whole concentration was on the movie but not tonight. Paige was not watching the movie any more than she was. Paige tried to laugh at all the right places but Jane knew that it was not her real laugh, just as she was faking her own laugh. Jane also saw something different in Paige's eyes but what that was she could not tell. The movie was a long one and it did not end until about eleven. Jane was not sure if she was relieved that it was over as that meant she and Paige would have to talk. Jane knew this could not go on all weekend and she decided to have that talk with Paige that they should have had two weeks ago.

"Would you like some more Dr. Pepper?" Paige asked and before Jane could answer, Paige had grabbed her glass and headed into the kitchen. Jane knew that something was really wrong and she knew that it had to be bad for her. Paige was just acting too strange tonight. She was so jittery that it was almost funny.
